Working with the catalog. Creating products and categories
In this guide, we will talk about the product catalog page ("Products" - "Catalog") and the functionality it provides. Upon visiting this page for the first time, you will see the following window. Here, you can begin working with your catalog by creating your first product. Currently, there is no option to start by creating a category; you will be able to create your first category after adding the first product.
Additionally, you can import a product database - for instance, you can read more about XML import and Excel import via the links provided.
Creating a сategory
The category creation window includes the following fields:
Category Name, Category title, and H1 Title, which are displayed differently on the category page depending on the template, as well as a Description of the product category.
Link - the name that will be displayed in the link bar on the category page.
Meta Title, Meta Description, Meta Keywords - more about this here.
Category Image and Category Icon - the icon can currently only be seen in the "Phones" and "Clothing" templates.
Sort Order, which determines the order in which categories are displayed in the catalog.
Status - to make the category active or not; an inactive category will not be displayed on the website.
Robots Index Status - relates to page indexing, turn it off if you do not want the category page to be indexed, more details here.
Display products - here, you can choose different options for which products are displayed on the category page and whether they are displayed at all. These can be the best-selling products in it, Featured products, or those marked as New.
The order of sorting products in a category - for example, you can display products on the category page in alphabetical order.
ID XML category - the category ID as designated by the supplier in the import feed.
Vendor XML category - the name of the supplier under which the category was imported.
Creating a product
The product creation window in turn contains the following fields for completion:
Main Product Name and H1 Title, which are displayed differently on the product page depending on the template.
Description and Short Description of the product.
Link - the name that will be displayed in the link bar on the product page.
Meta Title and Meta Description - more about this here.
Product Price, Weight, and Model, which must be unique for each product.
You can choose the product Manufacturer from those available on your site, if any. Read more about working with manufacturers here.
Status - to make the product active or not, an inactive product will not be displayed on the website.
Switches for TOP, NEW, and PROMO correspond to the "TOP", "New", and "Special" labels on the product page respectively, as shown below. Additionally, the NEW switch adds the product to the "New products" block, which can be displayed in the left column block or on the main page. The "Special" label text can be changed by filling in the Text for the promotion field below.
Sort order - here, you can specify the desired order of a specific product's display on the category page. Note that you can set the product sorting order in the category settings. However, this product setting option can help if, for example, you want all products to be displayed in alphabetical order but one particular product always to be displayed first.
Quantity, Minimum Order Quantity, and Units.
Free Shipping switch, which also adds the corresponding label to the product page.
Edited for SEO and Robots Index Status switches, more about which can be read here.
The Electronic product switch means the product is information that can be transmitted in file form. This file must be attached to the product card in the Files to download tab and can be downloaded by the customer only after payment of the order in the personal account, if this switch is turned on.
On the Images tab, you can upload photos of your product or choose from those available on the server. Additionally, there is an option to upload different images for different colors of products if the "Different colors of the product" module is available.
You can also add a YouTube video to your product page and set various attributes like color or size - more about product attributes in a separate guide.
Add files to the product, and customers will be able to download them. If the Electronic product switch is turned on - customers will have this opportunity only after paying for the order in the personal account.
Regarding the Cross Sell Products tab - what it is and how it works can be found here. Note that the "Cross sell products" module is not available on the free rental package.
As for the translation capability - it is available on the Pro rental package, more about translation via the link.
Catalog
After filling your catalog with categories and products, you will see your category tree and the products they contain as follows:
Here, you can view products of specific categories or subcategories, search for products, filter them by certain parameters (for example, showing only Featured products by ticking the "Recommended" box at the top), set their status and XML export status (smaller green marker in the Status column or under the category name). In the Action column of the product list, you can move or copy products to other categories, copy a product's attributes to another product, open the product editing window, or delete it.
Similarly, with categories, click on the gear icon to the right of the category name to see options for moving, deleting, editing, and toggling status switches.
Very Important!
It is necessary to fill in the fields with the name, description, etc., in all languages that are present on your site. Also, products need to be added directly to your categories because if a product is outside of them (in the zero category "Top"), it will not be displayed on the website.
